OUR MISSION IS TO GIVE YOUNG GIRLS SELF ESTEEM SKILLS TO HELP THEM SUCCEED IN WHATEVER THEY CHOOSE TO DO

I started this remarkable journey 10 years ago of wanting to encourage girls about life’s highs and lows; I saw the need for change because they were our future. While I was going through a transitional period in my life, I started working as a Substitute Teacher, when I noticed that the self esteem in the students was at an all time low, especially in girls. I had the opportunity to witness young girls spiraling out control and heading the wrong direction, contrary to what I was use to and how I grew up, this behavior was out of character for girls. There was a lack of interest in class room participation, coupled with a total disrespect for any form of authority.

This lack of interest made me as a parent and teacher, want to reach out, and help them to bridge this gap, and make the necessary changes for the good of every one. My first thought was to focus my attention on the girls face to try and create a happy medium of compassion instead of pain. I then matched the faces of different girls with names that would depict a different personality, but the most important piece of bridging this gap was the need for self respect and a mutual respect for others. To find a common bond, I linked the steps of attitude and respect together through my creation of dolls and this was the birthing of the Sunshine Girls.

The Sunshine Girls are dolls designed to encourage every adolescent girl to choose a doll for themselves whose name inspires them. Each doll comes with a inspirational saying to further motivate, support and sharpen the personal talents and gifts each girl possesses and remind them that they can do anything. Unlike the dolls of today that come with no name or as a franchise of non descriptive and generic names, the Sunshine girls can help young girls realize their importance as they take their journey into womanhood they can pass them down to their daughters.

Carrie’s Sunshine Attic’s mission is to cultivate the minds of girls to have a healthy self and body image and reaffirm their self worth by offering motivational materials and seminars to teach the girls the concept of setting goals, and dreaming big. I decided early on that I did not want girls to grow up without positive self acclaiming attitudes so that they may be able to face and succeed against adversity. It is my desire that my dolls inspirational sayings will become a motivating factor in the lives of girls for generation to come, this is my vision from God.
